The ongoing collaboration between AIC and Cogne Acciai Speciali goes on with the progressive modernization initiatives at the bar mill located in the Aosta site, following the completion of the first phase of commissioning last summer*.
The recent restart has operated at full capacity from the very first day of production.
The second phase for the #TB has focused on new drives for controlling new AC motors in Stands 1-2, 7-8, & 13-14, complete with Siemens Sinamics regenerative DC bus and 1025A motor modules.
New double-winding 2000kVA transformers have been installed to supply power to the new drive panels. These panels are uniform across the system, ensuring a standardized solution and consistent spare parts. Similarly, the new Siemens motors for Stands 1-2, 7-8, & 13-14 of the #TB have been made analogous to the previous equipment installed in the Summer 2022 intervention.
Additionally, the power supply transformers for the control panels of Stands 1-2 & 7-8 have been provided with protective boxes. As part of this update, the logic control system for the mill has also been upgraded in accordance with the new plant configuration.
This significant step brings the plant closer to achieving complete flexibility in rolling production capacity and improved power performance.
* The initial phase encompassed the other 8 stands already existing on the site (3-6, 9-12), focusing on drive systems and motors by integrating renewed Siemens SINAMICS S120 modules of 800kW each. This phase also included equipping the stands with the existing PLC.
